Teenagehood and selfie photos

"And now they're asking us to plan out our future, HELLO I'm trying to figure out where my life is going RIGHT NOW imagine how my FUTURE life is mapped out, not at all that is."

Oh fifteen year old Melissa.  I'm in full on flashback mode where I retrace my journey from early teenage hood to early 20s (well, ok, so I'm only a few months in to the latter...whatever.) and see what the hell happened.  I like looking back because it's as if you finally see the big picture and you can dive into something else.  I'm full of eagerness right now and I'm out to make it a lifestyle, even through ups and downs of enthusiasm. We've got so many opportunities in front of us, enough to make an entire population's eyes shine.

On that introspective note, here are two watercolour selfies.  Just trying out a new style that I've constructed from many things I've seen.

Sustainable Living Project

There are many things in my life that make no sense. These past months I've been trying to remediate to the bad kind non-sense. I'll take this following list as an example. There is SO MUCH packaging that comes with some of the elements on this list and it'd be SO EASY to just make it at home. Well, for the most part. I haven't researched shampoo yet and haven't checked out where to find the ingredients for this deodorant.

So far, the 'essuie-tout' are gone! We are no longer using those kitchen rolls(?). Instead, we opt for dedicating a rag for each kind of mess. So for example, we'll always use the same rag to wipe grease so that we don't stain all of our rags for nothing.

I will keep you updated on my next elimination: boxed cereal!

Honouring Epic Quebecois Winter

Wondrous Vegan Breakfast Shake

I cannot stress enough how easy-peasy it is to incorporate vegan treats to your everyday meals. Our food system has an undeniably huge impact on the health of our bodies, environment and our non-human earth companions, yet it's so scarcely talked about compared to car pollution and deforestation (not to undermine their importance or anything of course!).

See, I just made a strawberry-banana shake in the matter of minutes.

  • 1 cup of enriched rice milk
  • 1/2 cup of soy yogurt
  • 5 medium sized strawberries
  • 1 banana
  • Maple syrup to taste

Everything goes in the blender and voilà. C'est prêt! Mmhhh.

Watercolour Month

For the next four weeks I will be ferociously working away at becoming decent in watercolours. I'll be periodically posting my progress. Please do feel comfortable interjecting with your feedback at any time.

Sankyou:)

Ps. I didn't use my own reference for the girl on the left, but I can't find the source anymore! It doesn't look like her so much anymore but... if you come across it, it would be lovely to drop me a note.

Homemade McGriddle Recipe

Calling all McGriddle and/or McDonald's lovers: how to make a homemade McGriddle! You no longer need to put your hard-earned money into a business that encourages poor environmental and animal welfare practices.

I was coaxed into tasting a McGriddle last week and was sold. But I will NEVER EVER EVER get back together with McDonald's.

I made some variations since I don't eat meat, but you can easily get a slices of bacon and sausage from the local farmer and just tuck it in there. I also ditched processed cheese slices since that day I caught it turning whitish grey when left in a sandwich for a while. So "normal" cheese it is.

What you need
  • Pancake batter (check this recipe out)
  • Maple Syrup
  • 1 egg
  • Cheese
  • A cooking oil

Super easy steps:

Pancake 1. Pour the batter onto your cooking surface so that you get circular pancakes that are a few inches wide and about a half inch thick. Immediately swirl maple syrup onto the uncooked center of the pancake (failing to do so will make your syrup fall to the edges and burn in the pan) When the syrup has sunken in, flip it.

Egg 2. While this is cooking, beat your egg and fry it with a bit of oil. To get the McGriddle Egg effect, let the oil and pan heat up thoroughly then add the egg while letting it spread out thin. Make sure it's properly cooked before flipping.

Putting it together 3. Cut the cheese and add it with the egg between two syrup filled pancakes

4. Enjoy the taste of Fuck-you-McDonald's.

Of course McDonald's uses more grease, that's why theirs looks shinier. They also use salt. If that's your thing, feel free to grease that salty thing up. I ain't gon' stop you.

So yeah, enjoy your Sunday !

Non-Pareils Donut Delight

Since I shut down my Frolic Hunter Tumblr in efforts to streamline my life and dedicate more time and concentration on less things, I allow myself to post my magnificent donuts here. I love the sprinkles. People who love sparkle donuts have understood something about life. You, non-pareil lover, are on to something.

Digital Painting Awesome Sauce Portrait Of MOI

I am please to present you Ashley's part of our art exchange. I need to get my side of the exchange done now! I love this style, that kind where it's not meant to mimic human anatomy but is nonetheless rendered in a polished, realistic way.
